On 5 February 2026, Lea Gerster, Political Affairs Officer at the Swiss Embassy in Japan, delivered a guest lecture in the “Swiss Law” course at the University of Tsukuba. The lecture covered the fundamentals of Switzerland’s political system, including its historical development, governance structure and federal system, the principles of direct democracy, and the mechanisms of the popular initiative and referendums. We hope that this opportunity will help to foster closer ties between Switzerland and Japan.
